separation
in an effort to maintain some semblance of professionalism on my “music career” website, i’m going to stop posting random crap i find on the internet to this Tumble Log and instead use it to promote my hobby of getting drunk, going on stage, and playing R&B.
funny(?) pictures and posts for matt and kath are now at A BUNCH OF CRAP

haven’t updated in a while. things are changing. moon minion lost another drummer. chris had to cut something out of his very busy schedule, and moon got the axe. we’re disappointed, but we understand. sadly, it puts us back where we were earlier this year when aaron left. anyway, in the short term we’ll be playing with a bunch of people and hoping one of them can stick around.

updates.
moon minion’s new disc, the Love for Music EP, is now available on cdbaby.com.
moon minion’s website, moonminion.com, has launched.
i’m about to indulge myself in a new solo disc. no idea if/when it will be released, or how. it’s going to start as an artistic exercise; maybe it will grow into something more.
sorry about the downtime. everything’s better.

a number of gigs have been added. in addition to new moon minion dates, i’ll be playing with sarah blacker, a fantastic singer songwriter from boston who you’ll likely be hearing a lot more of soon.
moon minion is doing really well. we’re working on a new EP with aaron katz, who will also be playing drums for us at a few shows. aaron is producing and recording the EP, and...

my laptop died. if you email me, it will likely take me a little longer than usual to respond.
Moon Minion has a brand new recording up on our myspace. It’s a tune called “Remember I” and it reflects pretty accurately the direction we’re attempting to go in. Check it out.

about me.
i’ve played piano for a very long time, taking lessons sporadically along the way. in the past 10 years i’ve studied with mark shilansky, sai ghose, jared sims, and dave tonkin. i’ve always had an interest in jazz and have focused on it for most of my life, but in the past few years i’ve started trying to write pop songs and play in rock bands.
in high school, i was in an...

revisiting gaucho
Really interesting article on Gaucho, the album that effectively broke up Steely Dan for the first time, over on Stylus.com.
Everyone on Gaucho is a loser. Everyone. The protagonist of the first single, “Hey Nineteen,” is a 30-something trying to pick up a 19-year-old. That in itself isn’t pathetic or grotesque: there’s no suggestion that he’s bald, fat, unattractive, or particularly lecherous...

Pat Metheny on Kenny G
He, in one move, through his unbelievably pretentious and calloused musical decision to embark on this most cynical of musical paths, shit all over the graves of all the musicians past and present who have risked their lives by going out there on the road for years and years developing their own music inspired by the standards of grace that Louis Armstrong brought to every single note he played...
